Program

Friday

2:30 - 4:30 p.m. | Tour - Rooney Sports Complex & Freddie Fu Sports Medicine Center
If you are a Pittsburgh sports enthusiast, do not miss this opportunity to:
  • Tour Steelers and Pitt Panther’s training facilities
  • Meet faculty working with players and performers from the Steelers, Penguins, Pitt Panthers, and Pittsburgh Ballet
  • Walk through where Pittsburgh top athletes receive state-of-the-art clinical care
  • View sports memorabilia found nowhere else including 6 Lombardi trophies
6:30 - 8:30 p.m.  | All Class Welcome Back Reception | Kimpton Hotel Monaco
Experience Pittsburgh’s vibrant downtown area at the chic Hotel Monaco. Enjoy reconnecting with old friends with food and drink on us. Still having a good time at 9:30pm? Head upstairs to the rooftop Biergarten to continue swapping stories with your classmates.

Saturday

10:00 - 11:00 a.m. | Student-led Tours of Scaife Hall | Scaife M-200K
Walk down memory lane as you stroll through the anatomy lab and see what the future of the medical school will look like as you see newly renovated spaces. Along the way you’ll get to hear all about podcast lectures, problem-based learning, student interest groups, and other things that may be new to the medical school since you graduated.
11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. | Lunch with Pitt Med Student Innovators | Scaife 1105 | $15/person
Want to meet some of the Pitt Med students who aren’t waiting until they graduate to apply their skills and training to benefit patients? Come hear these students present on their discoveries and innovations and vote on who you think should walk away with a cash award!
2:00 - 3:30 p.m. | Screening of Burden of Genius & Panel Discussion with Producer | Scaife 1104
Burden of Genius is the story of an innovator as complex and elusive as the biological secrets he unlocked. It is also a reflection on the price of scientific progress by the man many consider the greatest surgeon of the 20th century and the father of organ transplantation, Dr. Thomas Starzl.
4:00 - 5:00 p.m. | Screening of Shot Felt ‘Round the World | Scaife 1104
A disease seeks out mainly children and terrorizes them and their parents each summer. A beloved, polio-afflicted U.S. President inspires the country's men, women, and children to send their dimes to fund research - some of which would go to an ambitious, but unknown 33-year-old physician, Dr. Jonas Salk, and his team at the University of Pittsburgh, who would change the course of medical history.
6:00 - 9:00 p.m. | Class Dinners | The Oaklander Hotel | $125/person
Join your classmates for dinner at the brand new Oaklander Hotel, where Pittsburgh’s industrial past seamlessly intersects with its cutting-edge future. This new Autograph Collection hotel in the heart of Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood is bustling with energy and innovation in the trails blazed by cultural giants. With a view of the Cathedral of Learning and other notable Oakland architecture, it’s a dinner you won’t forget.
